Gedi (or Gede) Ruins are the remains of a once-thriving 13th-century Swahili town, later abandoned and reclaimed by forest. Visitors explore coral-stone mosques, a palace, houses and deep wells amid towering trees. The site is a National Monument managed by the National Museums of Kenya and includes a museum and guided walks.
